DATPOL / ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS AND SAFETY

Lightning protection,
earthing and electrical safety.

Protect the people, buildings and equipment your business relies on. We design, install and upgrade lightning protection, earthing and equipotential bonding, with testing and documentation for the agreed scope.

FOR BUSINESSES, PROPERTY MANAGERS AND INVESTORS

Protection designed as a coordinated system.

Factories, warehouses, offices, commercial premises and public buildings need a coordinated approach. We consider the roof, buried services, distribution boards, process equipment and communications networks. New protection is coordinated with existing infrastructure, and necessary shutdowns are agreed with the site operator.

New construction

Plan foundation earthing and connection points early to reduce the need for excavation and alterations later.

Existing installations

We review documentation, connection continuity, component condition and upgrade options. Remedial work follows the assessment, rather than the installation’s age alone.

Site expansion

A new building, solar PV, rooftop equipment or production line is an opportunity to reassess protection and coordinate installation changes.

What can DATPOL provide?

Lightning protection systems

Assessment, design, air-termination systems, down conductors, test joints and connection to the earth-termination system. Building geometry, risk and rooftop equipment inform the specification.

Earthing

Foundation, ring or vertical earth electrodes selected for the building and ground conditions. We consider durability, corrosion, material compatibility, inspection access and existing buried services.

Main and local bonding

Main earthing terminals and main or supplementary equipotential bonding. We identify and label connections, document the arrangement and verify continuity.

Surge protection

Selection and coordination of surge protective devices for power circuits and suitable protection for signal lines, taking account of equipment and cable routing.

Testing and handover

Visual inspection, earthing and continuity testing, plus electric shock protection, insulation and RCD tests where included in the agreed scope. Reports record results, assessment and recommendations.

Inspection and maintenance

Periodic inspections, investigation following damage and remedial works. Systems can be included in DATPOL CARE or whole-site Facility Management.

GSU / GSW

The main point for protective connections.

In Polish documentation, GSU denotes the main earthing terminal or bar. GSW is also used for the main equipotential bonding bar. Appropriate earthing, protective and protective bonding conductors are connected here according to the supply arrangement and design.

Equipotential bonding helps limit dangerous potential differences. We identify which extraneous-conductive-parts require bonding; not every metal component requires the same connection arrangement.

LSU / LSW / MSW

Local bonding where the design requires it.

Polish drawings may use LSU, LSW or MSW for local earthing or equipotential bonding bars. These organise connections in designated areas, such as plant rooms, equipment zones or server rooms. Their function and connection to the main arrangement are defined in the design.

A local bar does not replace a protective conductor or properly designed earthing. For IT and automation, we distinguish electric shock protection from functional bonding and electromagnetic compatibility requirements.

PROJECTS IN POLAND

Regulatory requirements depend on the building and work.

This English-language offer describes services and regulatory references for projects in Poland. It does not present Polish requirements as UK law.

Polish building technical requirements

Section 53(2) of the Polish regulation on building technical conditions addresses lightning protection for the buildings within its scope. Section 183(1) covers, among other measures, main and supplementary equipotential bonding and surge protection. Section 184 addresses earthing arrangements and lightning protection installation.

We establish the requirements for the particular building, its use and the proposed works. Not every building needs the same lightning protection system, and rooftop air terminations alone do not provide complete protection for internal systems.

Inspections and qualifications

Article 62(1)(2) of the Polish Building Law provides for an inspection at least every five years, including electrical and lightning protection installations. Its scope includes connections, fittings, protective devices, electric shock protection, insulation and earthing.

Five years is not a universal interval for every maintenance activity: use, documentation and risk assessment may call for shorter intervals. An event affecting building safety may also require an additional inspection. Work, testing and statutory inspections require qualifications appropriate to their scope.

Technical standards and the design basis.

We agree the design and acceptance basis before work starts, checking standard editions, amendments, references in legislation and project requirements. A new standard edition does not automatically require every existing installation to be rebuilt.

  • PN-EN IEC 62305 / PN-EN 62305 series: lightning protection principles, risk management, protection of structures and internal systems. The PKN catalogue lists new editions of Parts 3 and 4: PN-EN IEC 62305-3:2025-09 and PN-EN IEC 62305-4:2025-09.
  • PN-HD 60364-5-54: earthing arrangements, protective conductors and protective bonding conductors, with amendments appropriate to the agreed documentation, including A1:2023-04.
  • PN-HD 60364-4-41, 4-443 and 5-53: electric shock protection, surge protection and equipment selection, as applicable to the installation.
  • PN-HD 60364-6: verification of low-voltage electrical installations, including initial and periodic verification.

Polish Standards are not legislation. Their application is generally voluntary, while agreed standards may form contractual obligations. The design must also meet the applicable legal requirements.

A clear handover for your maintenance team.

  • Documentation of the agreed solution and completed changes.
  • Identification of bars, connections and inspection points.
  • Test reports recording scope, results and assessment.
  • Identified defects and recommendations, where applicable.
  • Arrangements for further inspection and maintenance.

Assessment first. A defined scope next.

For an initial discussion, provide the location, use and dimensions of the building, electrical documentation, previous test reports and planned alterations. For upgrades, we agree access to roofs, distribution boards and test points, together with suitable shutdown windows.

Frequently asked questions.

Is an earth resistance measurement sufficient?

No. The assessment combines visual inspection, required tests, connection checks and comparison with documentation. One reading does not demonstrate the condition of the entire electric shock or lightning protection system.

Must every installation achieve an earth resistance below 10 Ω?

We do not apply one value to every site. Assessment criteria depend on the purpose of the earthing, supply arrangement, protective devices and design. Reports compare results with the relevant criterion.

Should lightning protection be reviewed when adding rooftop solar PV?

Yes. New equipment and cable routes need to be assessed against the existing protection, including separation distances, bonding and surge protection. The solution is determined for the individual installation.

Do you only install new systems?

We also offer surveys, repairs, upgrades and ongoing care for existing installations. The scope follows the site condition and available documentation.
